Manchester settlement turns 130 years old
In 2025 Manchester Settlement turns 130 years old! We are incredibly proud of all of the fantastic work that the charity has achieved since its formation in 1895.
Today, the story continues at our Community hub in Openshaw, where Manchester Settlement has carried forward its proud legacy, providing support for the local community. This support comes in the form of care, advice and education - offering a place of belonging to everyone and always creating stronger communities, together!
130 years on and Manchester Settlement's purpose still burns bright: to stand with those who need it most, to inspire, and to transform lives.

How we celebrated
The charity marked its incredible milestone with a series of heartfelt celebrations that truly captured the spirit of Manchester Settlement. From a lively youth club party that brought together over 60 past and present youth club members, to a joyful Wellbeing Wednesday filled with party games and karaoke.
There were celebrations at the food pantry, where visitors received gift bags packed with winter essentials. Our Supported Housing team organised a special gathering for young asylum seekers, sharing dishes from their home countries. Afterschool club buzzed with excitement at their Victorian-themed dress-up tea party, families enjoyed stay-and-play parties, and the nursery was transformed into a magical circus for the little ones.
Our Openshaw hub was full of joy throughout the whole celebration week. Check out the pictures below
a Big Birthday celebration
This week of celebrations culminated in a 'Big Birthday Bash'. It was incredibly special to have the opportunity to come together and share this milestone with the wider Manchester Settlement community. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
The event had music, food (provided by Levenshulme Inspire) and exhibitions exploring both the history of Manchester Settlement and our fantastic current work. Speeches were given by Councillor Thomas Robinson, Angela Beacon from Manchester Local Care Organisation, and Chief Executive of Manchester Settlement, Adrian Ball. These words were a perfect tribute to what Manchester Settlement has always stood for: a place where joy, resilience, and care are woven together to create something extraordinary.
This was a an amazing chance to celebrate our history and look to the future of Manchester Settlement. Thank you to everyone who is part of our story.
Manchester Settlement is proud to host a small photo exhibition at our community hub, a celebration of stories, faces, and moments that reflect the resilience and spirit of the people. This is open to the public for a limited time, please call 0161 974 1300 to check availability
